This week on Cultivate, we discussed what it looks like to live with humility and generosity, especially in spaces where we’re tempted to seek recognition. Charlie and Abigail walked through Luke 14, where Jesus attends a meal at a Pharisee’s house and challenges both guests and host alike. We explored Jesus’ practical wisdom about taking the “lowest seat” at the table, reminding us that those who humble themselves will be exalted, and those who exalt themselves will be humbled. The conversation moved from party etiquette to deeper questions of motive, asking whether we invest in relationships only for what we receive in return. Jesus’ words call us out of self-seeking and into true hospitality—inviting in those who cannot repay us, and finding honor not from people’s admiration, but from God.
