Pentecost and the Birth of the Church
This week on Cultivate, we look at how the earliest days of the church set the stage for everything that followed. Picking up in Acts 1 and 2, we step into the moment after Jesus’ resurrection when his followers are waiting, uncertain, and asking big questions about what comes next.
As the Holy Spirit arrives at Pentecost, we discuss how this moment reshaped expectations and created a new kind of community—one built around sharing, teaching, prayer, and genuine care. We examine Peter’s bold sermon and what it meant for 3,000 people to respond in repentance and baptism. Along the way, we consider what the “last days” meant to the first believers, how the promise of the Spirit felt both familiar and radically new, and why the early church’s life together was such a draw.
These chapters challenge us to think about what the church is really meant to be—a people formed by God’s presence, living out faith in community and inviting others in.
