Faith, Forgiveness, and Duty
This week on Cultivate, we explored the themes of sin, faith, and duty as found in Luke 17:1–10. Charlie Loften and Abigail Boone dove into Jesus’ challenging words about forgiveness—specifically, the call to forgive someone who wrongs you repeatedly, even seven times in a single day. We discussed what it means not to be a stumbling block in others’ faith journeys, and how Jesus reframed the apostles’ request for “more faith,” reminding them (and us) that even a mustard seed–sized faith is sufficient for great things.
The heart of the conversation centered on Jesus’ parable about the servant doing their duty—not as something extraordinary, but as the expected response to God’s grace. Together, we reflected on what it looks like to view forgiveness and faithful obedience as the baseline of following Jesus, not as an exceptional feat.
Listen in as we consider how these teachings challenge our attitudes and invite us to check our hearts—encouraging all of us to reflect on how we receive grace and extend it to others each day.
